Please and thanks you are not difficult words to say.  I’ve noticed that people find it to be a bother to say.  I was taught to use please when asking for something and thank you when receiving something.  I remember once I had asked my Grandma for something and she replied, “What’s the magic word?”  I replied, “Abracadabra.”  Please was the answer she was looking for and would not get anything until I asked properly.  I don’t think parents and adults in general hold children to a very high standard anymore.  Rudeness has become an epidemic in society.  Kids don’t seem to have boundaries anymore.  I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard kids back talk or smart mouth their parents in public with no consequence.  I remember as a kid being popped in my mouth for back talking to my Mom.  I deserved it and more than likely should have gotten it more than I did.  Now if you spank your kids it’s child abuse.  There are kids who are the king of castle at home because the parents are afraid to punish them.  Those are the children who really need a good whooping.

Another problem with parents is not following through with threats.  A threat only works if there is a real consequence.  Giving in to whining and crying only makes the problem worse.  A child will push the boundaries are far as they can if you allow them to.   I remember testing my Mom to see if she would actually, “Turn this car around.”  She will and it will not end well for you.  Do you know what happens if you say ‘one more thing?’  Neither do I, I never went that far.  I do know what happens when my Mom gets to 3 though.  That doesn’t end well either.  It’s because of the boundaries that I turned into a responsible, hard working, and respectfully adult.  Thanks Mom.
